Arbor Education is a socially-driven EdTech company on a mission to transform the way schools work, using smarter, hassle-free tools. Arbor’s Management Information System (MIS) is currently used by over 1,000 schools, helping staff save time whilst improving student outcomes. The company, whose Customer and Sales Office made its home in Leeds 4 years ago, recently decided to establish a new development and engineering function in the City, a decision which was an easy one considering the City's strategic location, its fast-paced environment and the large body of potential employees.
Test Engineers are responsible for conducting exploratory testing to ensure the software created by the delivery team meets the needs of the business. You will work with the delivery team and support functions of the business. The purpose of a test engineer is to verify that delivered software either behaves as expected or to highlight areas where behaviour is not as expected.

Essential skills and experience: Worked as a Product Owner, Business Analyst and/or Product Manager with a development team using Agile development approaches. Worked closely with a wider Product Management team to align squad deliverables with a wider Product Strategy. Experience taking an idea from concept through to delivery and continual improvement. Comfortable with holding accountability for Product delivery from the squad and reporting progress to stakeholders. Experienced in running Agile ceremonies (planning, reviews, standups), showcasing Products to internal stakeholders and improving the ways of working of teams. Excellent communication and influencing skills. You’ll be the voice of the customer, championing the highest value features for the product. Desirable: Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), or the ability to demonstrate similar knowledge.
Some of the duties involved: Produce clean, efficient code based on requirements. Produce maintainable code. Focus on testability of delivered solutions. Integrate software components and third-party programs. Verify and deploy programs and systems. Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing software. Recommend and execute technical improvements. Create technical documentation for reference and reporting.
Essential skills and experience: Strong programming skills (object-oriented and/ or functional) - particularly in Python. Strong analytical skills. SQL and persistence technologies. Solid hands-on experience with ETL tooling. Ability to demonstrate a growth mindset and a willingness to learn. Excellent teamwork skills across various specialisms. Curiosity to explore different technologies.
Your experience might include building a successful product; this means you have a thorough understanding of positioning, pricing, optimisation, and enabling Product & Engineering teams to use efficient agile approaches. You will have a strong understanding of how technology teams work and you are able to engage well with engineers, although you may not necessarily have been an engineer yourself. You’ve been an integral part of the growth journey; this means that you’ve built out a product organisation and are confident in speaking to your leadership and management experience and strategic capabilities in how you’ve built and scaled teams. You’re well versed in implementing a robust product or technology strategy and you can demonstrate an understanding of the power of culture in helping employees make great decisions without onerous processes.
In depth knowledge and understanding of using Arbor across all phases. Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple stakeholders at differing levels of seniority. Ability to critically analyse data to identify areas of opportunity and where efforts around customer success should be focused. Understanding of customer success as a discipline and what this means for Arbor. Proven ability to self-organise and work efficiently and effectively.
You have prior experience in inbound or outbound sales development, recruitment or software sales. You’re creative and like to tell stories, you can empathise with your customer and use your written, verbal and visual communication skills to put value propositions in front of the right people. You’re fascinated by how things work inside your prospect’s organisation, you’re curious about the challenges, infrastructure, roles, and objectives of your clients. You’re analytical and excellent at evaluating your own work, you are thorough and consistent when it comes to executing your plans. 1 Year + project coordination/ project management background, with a comprehensive understanding of best practice in coordinating or managing a project (SAAS experience preferred) OR: 1 Year + experience as a team lead in a project office/ project management environment A leader who exemplifies the willingness to go the extra mile for our customers Experience setting clear goals/objectives for both individuals and teams Confident reporting achievements and challenges faced within the team to the wider business A proven track record in building relationships with key stakeholders, with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, and more.
You have commercial experience in programme management, and bring a comprehensive understanding of best practice for managing projects/ programmes of work related to software deployments. You can demonstrated past experience leading and developing a team, by setting clear goals/objectives for both individuals and teams. Comfortable reporting on achievements and challenges faced within the team to the wider business. Eager to work in a fast-paced, and results-oriented culture, demonstrating strong operating instincts, organisational skills and discipline. Data driven mindset always looking for story being told and developing actionable insights. You’re happy to travel to client sites (at least 30% of your time).
Commercial experience as a QA engineer in an enterprise SaaS business, writing and executing test plans. Writing SQL queries to extract and validate data directly from database tables. You’re comfortable creating documentation, reporting on issues found, how they impact the customer and clear steps for reproduction. You have experience working with Product Managers to understand business requirements, and define acceptance criteria and test strategies around them. You are at home working in a fast paced agile environment.
You have commercial experience as a project manager delivering software projects using project management frameworks such as Prince2. You can demonstrate past experience managing multiple projects concurrently in an agile environment, often with overlapping projects to tight timeframes. You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced, and results-oriented culture. You’re good at using data to solve problems. You’re willing to travel frequently to client sites (at least 30% of your time).
