UX Designer

We’re a digital service design consultancy who work closely with our clients to create digital products and services that work for everyone.

People are at the centre of everything we do. We’re a close-knit community of change-makers united by a love for solving complex problems for our users. We take a common sense approach to getting things done. We’re pragmatic in the face of obstacles. We get things wrong and that’s OK (we’re all human after all). We learn from it and adapt. We stay curious and never stop learning.

Design that puts users first

We mainly work with large organisations to solve some tricky design challenges. You’ll work with our clients using your design expertise and a user-centered approach to advise and deliver on great designs. You’ll work in a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, developers and product owners to help design what our clients products and services will look and behave like. You’ll be the go-to person for all things usability, accessibility and design patterns.

What you will do:

  • Use insights from user research and analytics to identify ‘pain points’ and inform iterations to your designs
  • Explain your ideas clearly, changing your approach for a range of audiences
  • Propose ideas that solve problems creatively and shape these into logical, coherent solutions that centre around user needs
  • Design end-to-end user journeys that create the optimal user experience
  • Consider broader service-wide journeys and how your design relates to these
  • Explore a range of approaches to solve specific user problems and ensure that the product logically flows from one step to the next
  • Help to create a shared problem-space by creating user journeys, sitemaps, navigation schema, and annotated wireframes
  • Conduct usability testing and gathering feedback
  • Engage with agile, multidisciplinary teams with a user-centred design process
  • Facilitate and run a range of workshops with your team and stakeholders
  • Work with the Hippo design community to share best practice to ensure high standards
  • Help drive our creative culture by being a highly visible advocate for all things design both internally and externally

Skills and experience that you need

You will need:

  • A growth mindset – you approach every as a school day, no matter how experienced you are
  • Strong ability to recognise and predict use-cases and user interaction, including happy path, edge and corner cases, and incorporate them into designs
  • The knowledge and desire to investigate, innovate and develop emerging design, UX and technology trends
  • Experience in rapid prototyping tools, for example Sketch / Figma / Adobe XD
  • Excellent understanding of user-experience design for mobile and the web, technology trends, demonstrable design skills, and ability to show relevant work
  • Great consultancy skills, caring about your client’s needs and motivations
  • To enjoy sharing your skills and experience with your client to enable them to continue to iterate and improve content after you leave

Bonus points if you have:

  • Working knowledge of accessible design best-practices, with the ability to apply these to your designs
  • Understanding of HTML / CSS and how your designs would be built

* As a consultancy, we work with clients based all over the country, so all applicants should be comfortable travelling further than the advertised location.
