Service Designer

About the role.

We are looking for a Service Designer to join the team on a permanent basis, so keep reading:

What you will do.

  • Plan, prepare and execute a range of design activities to support the inception or continuous improvement of products/services for our clients
  • Lead collaboration with various skill sets to rigorously analyse all aspects of the service and enable the team to build empathy with the service users
  • Identify the most appropriate design methods depending on the phase of the service lifecycle, such as service mapping, service blueprinting or classification of a service taxonomy
  • Lead the creation of maps and blueprints. Ensure their value transcends the artefact and enables outcomes
  • Be able to adapt the use of methods and tools for remote or face-to-face working
  • Shape the service design community of practice and ensure it is able to provide guidance and feedback
  • Advise on suitability of design candidates for open roles and lead recruitment interviews
  • Direct the work of others and provides guidance on how to use service design in a strategic context
  • Have knowledge of, and participate in, several disciplines, actively seeking ways of facilitating co-working and improving the strength of Hippo’s multidisciplinary service design offer

Skills and experience that you need

  • Experience leading the end-to-end design of new services or leading the improvement of current services that are under performing
  • Experience of working within the parameters of a broad direction but generally your work is self-initiated
  • Experience working with service/product owners and senior stakeholders and able to be pragmatic about the organisation’s needs
  • You are confident presenting your work to senior stakeholders and are able to demonstrate how evidence has been used to support the design decisions
  • You can manage relationships effectively, building long-term, strategic partnerships that involve regular and clear communication
  • You have advanced experience with Agile, GDS standards and service principles

You will need to be comfortable with travelling. Some of the essential requirements: A growth mindset - you approach every as a school day, no matter how experienced you are. Strong ability to recognise and predict use-cases and user interaction, including happy path, edge and corner cases, and incorporate them into designs. The knowledge and desire to investigate, innovate and develop emerging design, UX and technology trends. Experience in rapid prototyping tools, for example Sketch / Figma / Adobe XD. Excellent understanding of user-experience design for mobile and the web, technology trends, demonstrable design skills, and ability to show relevant work.
