Senior Software Engineer

What we’re looking for:

Direct Line Group is in the process of re-discovering its Software Engineering roots. We are looking for Senior Software Engineers with curious and forward-thinking minds, to challenge status-quo of software engineering and architecture.

 

We are looking for a polyglot programmer with expertise in Java and its ecosystem. Java is the main language however additional languages such as: JavaScript, Python, HTML are desirable. Best practices in Agile Software Development and CI/CD are required to help us achieve high quality and maintainable software here at DLG. It would be beneficial to have AWS and DevOps knowledge and its practical application too.

 

Knowledge of the insurance industry is desirable but not essential. If you have experience in the Guidewire Suite and development practices in GOSU this would be advantageous.

 

Who you’ll be working with:

The Technology Engineering Tribe works across all the business and customer facing Tribes and is part of our Engineering Chapter.  Our mission is, “Be awesome at building and running technology”.  As a member of the cross-functional squad you will be contributing towards team objectives and key results for our business delivering platforms with the customer at the heart of its focus.

 

Also, as part of the Engineering Chapter, you will be working with Engineering Chapter Leads and other Software Engineers on adopting industry best practices in the Agile software development.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Work as a member of a team in a new insurance technology solution for pricing and underwriting, claims covers motor, home and rescue.
  • Knowledge and skills in Java, GOSU, Spring, Web Service and Server technologies, and various levels of testing.
  • Experience with either of the following CI/CD tools: Maven, Gradle, NPM, AWS CodeBuild, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, GitHub Actions.
  • Good AWS Experience with services such as: EC2, Lambda, ECS, S3, EBS, VPCs, CloudWatch, CloudFormation.
  • Build and Operate Services and Platforms as a member of cross-functional team.
  • Ensure software quality by unit, integration and End-to-End testing.
  • Research new technologies and propose improvements to existing platforms as well as migration from legacy systems.
  • Work closely with other disciplines including, functional and non-functional testing, security and operations, in order to design, build and operate highly resilient and secure solutions.
  • Collaborate and communicate with Engineering Chapter (Community of Software Engineers).

 

Direct Line Group has recently moved to a new Agile way of working and are looking for senior engineers to take on the role of Chapter Lead where they can practise their craft as well as mentor and support a squad of engineers with a servant leadership approach and mindset.   If this is of interest to you please make sure to give examples of any people management experience, especially within an agile organisation, that you have in your application.
