Senior Front-End Engineer: Leeds

They are one of Yorkshire’s most exciting and innovative tech start-ups. We are looking for a senior front-end engineer to join their growing team. Synap is a SaaS-based EdTech platform that helps schools, universities and businesses deliver revision quizzes and high-stakes exams online.

Career progression toward Head of Front End Engineering is on the table for the successful candidate should they excel in their roles and responsibilities.

Duties

This list is not exhaustive but provides an overview of the job. The successful candidate will receive one-to-one training for each aspect of their role:

• Working directly with our CTO to evaluate how the front-end codebase is aligned to fit our product roadmap.
• Develop a deep understanding of the frontend architecture.
• Write reusable and testable components.
• Produce wireframes or UI mock-ups to help in product-feature discussions.
• Take a lead on reducing technical debt where possible.
• Take a lead on building a solid testing strategy for our Ember.js web-app.
• Mentor the junior developers through pairing, planned training sessions, PR code-reviews and ad-hoc advice.
• Build an awareness of the overall technical infrastructure to be involved in strategic discussions around scale and stability.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies such as micro-frontends in preparation for scaling up the front-end organisation.

Required skills and experience that will be assessed at the interview stage:

• Typescript
• HTML + dynamic templates such as Handlebars
• CSS + pre-processor language such as Sass
• Any MVC framework such as Ember.js, Angular, Vue.js or React
• Strong UI/UX principles
• GraphQL
• Testing strategies
• Software design principles
• Git
• Awareness of web security concerns
• Coding for accessibility
• Managing multiple environments and deployment configurations
• Web app deployment flow such as bundling and uploading release artifacts.
• Working within an agile sprint process
• Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas.
