IT Infrastructure and Operations Team Leader

Salary: £38,085 to £47,606 dependent on experience + quarterly bonus + pension + 25 days holiday

Location: Buttershaw

We currently have two Infrastructure and Operations Team Leader vacancies within our IT function. One will be leading our Network team and the other role is leading our infrastructure support.

Purpose of the role

The purpose of the IT Infrastructure & Operations Team Leaders is to support the Kelda group and partner companies with their IT problems by providing 2nd / 3rd line support, delivering best value, exceptional service to the Kelda Group and affiliated companies.

You will align resources to help support the delivery of the IT programme of work and maintain the Yorkshire Water portfolio of IT services.  This will be provided through the development and management of internal resources, and the exploitation of external partner capabilities. 

You will be a key contributor to the management team for planning, budgeting, resourcing and other general management issues.

Key Accountabilities

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the management and maintenance of services based upon customer centric principles whilst maintaining / enhancing the customer experience
  • Ensure Business Support Group Services are operating within agreed SLA / OLA framework
  • Take ownership of major incidents from discovery to resolution
  • Ensure all Business Support Group services conform to the minimum governance requirements in accordance with International & domestic standards such as ISO27001
  • Provide guidance, coaching and support to other members of the IT Infrastructure & Operations department
  • Drive an exceptional IT Support function and capability of individuals within the team through ongoing performance management and development, and the setting of SMART and stretching areas of focus
  • Understand the demand of Capital work for IT Infrastructure & Operations and resources in your team as identified through the agreed IT Programme of Work and the anticipated levels of support and maintenance on the existing IT service portfolio to ensure:
    • Appropriate skills and expertise are developed and maintained.
    • Succession plans are in place.
    • Risks to IT Services through skills or individuals are understood, and appropriate controls put in place.
    • External partners/services are in place for capacity and capability shortfalls.
  • Lead the recruitment and selection of individuals, both permanent and temporary requirements, for the team
  • Work as part of the Team Leader community across BSG to ensure a collaborative and joined up workforce
  • Identify opportunities for innovation in the delivery of IT Support activities in the department
  • Support the integrated Technology Blueprint Plan and delivery of the annual Business Plan
  • Ensure the transition of solutions and services into the production environment is right first time, and delivers an exceptional customer service
  • Ensure that event monitoring is undertaken where necessary and the IT estate is proactively monitored and take corrective action/escalation should service availability become threatened
  • Experience of the ITIL principles (Including Incident, problem change, capacity management and IT service continuity management processes)

Knowledge and Skills Required

Essential:

  • Experience of managing a 2nd/3rd line support teams, driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets
  • Proven track record of implementing strategic plans, establishing clear strategic direction and delivery
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Extensive knowledge around IT Support activities and business processes
  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective internal and external relationships to Senior Manager level
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure technologies and how best to exploit their use for business benefit
  • Knowledge and understanding of IT service continuity planning
  • Ability to prioritise and execute tasks in a dynamic, fast-changing environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations
  • Ability to present ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Ability to influence individuals and ensure completion of activities
  • Ability to create executive summary papers
  • Experience of managing and working with external partner organisations
  • Experience of implementing Business Process Management through structured methodologies
  • Previous experience in an operational and/or strategic leadership role in a commercially orientated and/or regulated environment
  • Demonstrable track record of reducing operational costs
  • Level 1 MOD Clearance required for the role

Desirable:

  • Previous knowledge and experience of storage & backup, server environments, telecommunications, client devices, mobile devices, remote access solutions, SAP Basis, telemetry systems and contact centre telephony
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure Engineering design principles to deliver highly performing, scalable, resilient, robust IT business solutions
  • Knowledge of anti-virus software, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other network security measures
  • Experience of problem management capacity management and release management
