The Parallax design department is an essential part of our organisation and works with clients to help them transform through digital innovation. We use design to solve problems, craft engaging experiences and create meaningful and enjoyable digital products, services and websites.

This role is as much about designing as it is about strategic thinking and you have to have both a strong interest in as well as the ability to get under the skin of our customers’ customers to understand how to bring benefits to their experience on a commercial basis.

You will be responsible for developing and managing all aspects of our design and creative output. It’s a leadership role with accountability for all design output and the commercial success of the department.

Your role will be split between executing the UX process and visual design work as well as being responsible for recruiting and managing internal design talent. You must have the vision and drive necessary to develop and lead our design department, both creatively and commercially.

You must have a great eye for modern, beautiful and functional design whilst understanding the UX process and how we can solve problems through research, understanding and implementation.

At least one year of experience in managing people is essential as you will be required to nurture our next generation of visual and UX designers. You will lead designers through the entire design process as well as being a capable designer in your own right.

  • Appreciation of the importance of accessibility & performance on the web

Key responsibilities

  • Managing the department, both commercially and creatively, ensuring it’s efficient, profitable and creates high quality work.
  • Take a lead role in managing the design and creative elements of projects and be point of contact for clients brand and creative projects
  • Understand the businesses objectives and problems we need to solve through design.
  • Manage the user research process, understanding problems, priorities and habits and creating actionable recommendations from research.
  • Reviewing data from qualitative and quantitative sources and using this to form actionable insights to improve the user experience.
  • Analysing competitors and benchmarking the client’s website or product against them in the marketplace.
  • Collaboration with other team members such as developers and project managers, taking briefs and turning them into compliant design work.
  • Managing the content process through strategy, analysis, planning and how it works with interfaces to tell a story.
  • Create effective information architectures factoring in user flows, SEO, storytelling and functionality.
  • Design beautiful and functional interfaces across websites, products and services.
  • Create design specifications and a styleguide to bridge the gap between the prototype and development.
  • Present designs to internal and client stakeholders, clearly explaining the recommended approaches and decisions made.
  • Carry out user testing and other analysis methods to plan improvements based on learnings from real users.

You will report to the board of directors and have five direct reports.

Interviews are followed by a trial day at the office (during the COVID-19 outbreak alternative arrangements will be made), where you will be required to showcase your design and thinking capability as well as demonstrate your experience and ability to integrate into our team.
