Co-Founder / CTO

A fantastic opportunity to join this voice-first tech startup based in Leeds, England. We believe that VUI will fast become the new GUI, and aim to become a leading product and service provider in this domain.

We are developing enterprise-grade voice-first solutions using the serverless AWS platform, with web CMS back ends. Our first core product, currently in prototype, is a chatbot and Alex Skill that supports HE and FE students in their studies. We also have a number of other products and bespoke development opportunities in the pipeline.

I’m looking for a hands-on full stack CTO with strong serverless AWS experience to complement my skills in product development, sales and marketing. You will join as a self-funded co-founder with substantial equity. I’m open to a gradual onboarding and to flexible/part-time hours.

Above all else you will be a tech geek, hands-on, curious and passionate about all things tech and able to commit to the full AWS serverless stack, from CloudFront to Lex and Lambda. Ideally with an AWS certification, a knowledge of web development, JS and / or Python is required, along with exposure to Azure AD, ADFS, SSO and secure connectivity as many clients will require this type of integration. What you don’t already know you will be already be learning about through side projects.

Please note: as a very early stage startup, this has to be a hands-on role as well as defining the technical strategy.

Your education, age, nationality, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation are of no interest to me at all. However, given the level of expertise and judgement required you are unlikely to have less than 5 years’ experience and you may have had closer to the 35 years that I have in IT. However I’m open to being surprised !

We are currently at startup, officially launching 1st Feb 2020, although the business model and products have been in development for several months. We are currently home office based, and will mitigate that with online presence and, depending on your location, regular face to face time until such time as revenue and size warrant an office space.

I’m happy to have an informal discussion to explore workable options if you are interested but your circumstances or interests do not quite match the specification above. For example, you may be based in another country or have caring responsibilities.

One final point: ambiently has a very strong social ethic, and we are in the process of amending our Articles to reflect that. Our passion is better mental health and we will provide work experience and products that help people re-engage. You may have or have had poor mental health and that’s fine – me too. However as a startup with very limited funds and capacity I do need someone who is well enough to work in a fast-growing business with all the stresses and calls on your time that that involves.
