BJSS is looking to appoint a Chief Engineer onto the Leeds Leadership Team, assisting with all aspects of technology delivery and innovation and representing the Leeds team across the Company. You will be an excellent technologist who can convey vision to clients and staff alike, bringing gravitas and infectious passion for technology.
You will have a broad, hands-on knowledge of software delivery across multiple disciplines, such as development, test, architecture and infrastructure as well as a creative and innovative mindset. You will be self-managing, able to prioritise work based on regional needs and manage your time amongst multiple undertakings at any time.
An important aspect of the role will be ensuring that local client delivery remains technically strong, innovative, and stays abreast with the latest thinking.
The role will report to the UK CTO, with a broader remit as part of the chief engineers’ group. You will help drive the CTO agenda, supporting and driving technical initiatives both locally and across the organisation.
The role requires a significant degree of self-management and the ability to identify priorities for the Leeds region. A proportion of the role will likely be focussed on a mixture of client delivery as a BJSS consultant. You’ll need to be experienced enough to know what’s needed, where to apply yourself, and present gravitas to clients to be able to extract yourself from deliverable work as needs arise.
Innovation & Technical Leadership
As a technical leader within BJSS, you’ll have a good breadth of complex technical delivery expertise, ideally including forward looking technical delivery such as Machine Learning and Cloud Native. You’ll know how to utilise the knowledge and interest of other technologists throughout the Leeds team to enable to you meet your responsibilities and bring out the strengths in others.
You will identify projects in need of additional help, expertise or kick-starting, utilising your time to maximize impact and outcomes. On occasion you may make practical interventions into client deliveries to put them back on track.
You will track the use of technology across Leeds engagements and opportunities, working with other senior technologists across the regions to deliver a view of technology use within our client base, feeding into the BJSS technology direction.
In addition to delivery responsibilities, you will work with the leadership team and our capability specialists to help nurture the technology culture in the Leeds delivery team. You’ll lead by example, using your passion for new technology and trends to bring the team with you as you explore exciting concepts in a meaningful way. For example: organising and/or attending internal and external hack events; building, or sponsoring teams to build tech demonstrators, internal and external meetups, innovation workshops.
You’ll need to be a team player, and be able to leave your ego at the door. You’ll recognise that the Leeds office is made up of many skilled technologists and be self-aware enough to know when to lead and when to listen.
Pre-Sales, Client Relationships and Bid Activity
As Chief Engineer for Leeds, you will be part of the local leadership team to ensure that all work primed from the Leeds office is delivered to an appropriate quality, that the right technical input has been provided and that bid responses have an innovative technical element.
