About the role

Over the last five years Arbor has grown from 200 to 2,000 schools, propelled by mission-driven product development, delighted customers, national partner network and an industry-leading marketing and sales development team. This role sits in the sales development team generating new business in key strategic accounts and territories. You’ll be given the freedom to plan and craft your own outbound campaigns and be encouraged to use and develop a skill set of email, phone, direct mail, account-based marketing, video and LinkedIn.

Role Progression

Within 1 month, you’ll:

  • meet everyone in our friendly sales team to learn from their experiences selling to schools and trusts and join several sales meetings
  • understand how Arbor’s Management Information System saves teachers time and improves outcomes in schools
  • learn first-hand what’s important to school leaders and what makes them tick by qualifying inbound leads for a month
  • We’ll train you in Arbor’s house-style, branding, email writing and messaging so that you can prospect in the Arbor voice

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • be supported in booking opportunities for Arbor in key growth areas and accounts, working alongside your Business Development teammate
  • be an expert in writing and communicating in line with Arbor’s house style and brand values
  • be supporting on delivering an outbound campaign using various channels
  • be fully trained on how we use Hubspot in sales development
  • be establishing your product knowledge by attending our online customer festival ArborFest, product launches, and more sales meetings!
  • be contributing ideas and techniques into how we create our outbound campaigns
  • gain full access Sales Impact Academy’s excellent online sales training courses to learn from some of the best in the Software as a Service industry

Within 6 months, you’ll be:

  • working with your outbound partner to plan and deliver targeted, successful and ambitious campaigns into our highest value accounts
  • using Hubspot to analyse, track and manage the success of your own campaigns – reporting your results, evaluation and ideas for next time to the Head of Sales Development
  • working as part of a small team that plays to everyone’s strengths, shaping the direction of how we develop new business for Arbor and your own professional development

About you

  • You have prior experience in inbound or outbound sales development, recruitment or software sales
  • You’re creative and like to tell stories, you can empathise with your customer and use your written, verbal and visual communication skills to put value propositions in front of the right people
  • You’re fascinated by how things work inside your prospect’s organisation, you’re curious about the challenges, infrastructure, roles, and objectives of your clients
  • You’re analytical and excellent at evaluating your own work, you are thorough and consistent when it comes to executing your plans
  • You want to work in a fast-paced scale-up on a mission to transform the way schools work!

What we offer:


  • Uncapped commission in the Sales Development Team with an average of £16,000 in annual commission and discretionary performance bonuses when stretch targets are achieved
  • Our Sales Development Team works to one, shared target – in keeping with a company culture of collaboration, teamwork and sharing one mission. The talented team hasn’t missed a target in over 18 months!
  • Flexible working hours so you choose when you start and finish around our core hours, except when you’re needed in a meeting
  • We’re currently working 2 days a week in the office and 3 days at home, this could be reviewed over the next 12 months but will remain hybrid
  • Weekly and Monthly Town Halls lead by our CEO James and SMT, giving you visibility of who’s leading the company, our direction and a sense of your own contribution to the company’s success
  • A day off every year to dedicate to volunteering in your community or with a charity of your choice

  • Newly refurbished office in Grade 1 listed Old School building on Millennium Square, 10 minutes from Leeds train station
  • We finish at 12pm on Fridays during the school summer holidays

You can demonstrated past experience leading and developing a team, by setting clear goals/objectives for both individuals and teams. Eager to work in a  fast-paced, and results-oriented culture, demonstrating strong operating instincts, organisational skills and discipline. Commercial experience as a QA engineer in an enterprise SaaS business, writing and executing test plans. Writing SQL queries to extract and validate data directly from database tables. You’re comfortable creating documentation, reporting on issues found, how they impact the customer and clear steps for reproduction. You have experience working with Product Managers to understand business requirements, and define acceptance criteria and test strategies around them. You are at home working in a fast paced agile environment.
