The University of Leeds aims to be a globally recognized centre of expertise in the area of FinTech and to be an integral part of the FinTech ecosystem in the region. For the University of Leeds to achieve this, it will involve drawing on skill sets and expertise from across the University including computer science, sociology, finance, economics, decision science, mathematics and engineering. As part of building this group and making sure it is fit for purpose, the University will be running a series of events centred on FinTech over the next 12 months.
These events are being supported by schools and faculties across the University, with the theme of Democratizing Finance running through everything that we will do. We have a vision for FinTech built around disintermediation and disruption of existing ways of doing finance. In the spirit of disruption and doing things differently, we want to understand how best to engage with stakeholders in the region, from start-ups to large multinationals to civil society groups and local and national government.
