An online webinar as part of Leeds Digital Festival
In this presentation, the Distance Learning Unit at Leeds Beckett University shares some of the approaches and techniques we use to develop our innovative online learning material.
The session is aimed at educators and professionals who are new to online learning or looking to move existing material online. It explains the differences between blended and distance learning and how to use these concepts effectively.
We share practical advice on designing online material and the importance of providing learners with a variety of materials to increase engagement and support different learning styles.
We demonstrate some freely available software tools and provide advice on how to use these effectively.
Finally, we address the role of the tutor in an online environment and how they can support the needs of their learners.
The Distance Learning Unit at Leeds Beckett University has a remit to develop high quality, best practice, online learning material to support the diverse needs of our students. Today, we have 40 online postgraduate courses in subjects as diverse as Psychology, Education, Built Environment, Business, Law and Computer Security. These have attracted over 1000 students from 64 different countries who now engage with the University’s tutors, resources and support services entirely online.
